Students are invited to apply to be trained to work as crisis counselors with the telephone (and text) hotline of Response of Suffolk. This is a wonderful opportunity for to provide a real service to the community at large.
This four days of training (please note that attendance at all four sessions is obligatory) are Saturday March 10th, Sunday March 11th, Saturday March 17th and Sunday March 18th.
Students who make it through the training, will then enter into a period of more intensive one-on-one observation and shadowing until they are deemed ready to take calls on their own.
Students may wish to do this for academic credit through PSY 400 (Internship) if they have not already received those credits for another placement. If they wish to do this volunteering in conjunction with PSY 400, they should notify Dr. Ginnetty at some point in the near future. Students may also do this “on their own” for no credit.
The application process is time sensitive so I would recommend that any interested students complete the online application ASAP.
